TriCare’s Aged Care Residences got into the spirit for the Melbourne Cup this year, with a wonderful range of fun activities. From champagne and sweeps to a visit from a real horse, everyone had a wonderful time.
Art and craft at Bayview Place, Mt Gravatt and Kawana Waters
Our Bayview Place, Mt Gravatt and Kawana Waters residents were off and racing in the lead-up to the Melbourne Cup with some fun art and craft session to make their own fascinators! Craft activities like this aren’t just a lot of fun, they also help refine our fine motor skills. Crafting has the ability to involve many different areas of the brain, which ultimately strengthens memory, processing and problem-solving abilities.
Everyone had a wonderful time in our craft session, coming up with their own fascinator that they wore on the first Tuesday in November.
Games and fun for the big race at Labrador, Cypress Gardens, Jindalee, Point Vernon and Kawana Waters
No Melbourne Cup Day gathering would be complete without some fancy nibbles and drinks. At our Labrador, Cypress Gardens, Jindalee, Point Vernon, and Kawana Waters Aged Care locations, residents enjoyed morning or afternoon teas with a range of treats and nibbles, tea, coffee and glasses of bubbles, cheering on their favourite ponies from the comfort of their lounge room. There were plenty who dressed for the occasion, in some fun hats, ties and fascinators.
Cypress Gardens’ Lifestyle Team member Gina used to be a jockey, so she brought in some of her old racing gear and photos to show to the residents, and they loved getting to see the real racing gear up close! 🏇
A very special guest at Upper Mt Gravatt!
Our Upper Mount Gravatt residents really got into the Melbourne Cup spirit this year, with a carnival-like atmosphere taking over the day. We had a garden party, took lots of photos, showed off our fashions, and socialised all day – plus we had an extra special guest to pat!
The morning started out with everyone very excited to get dressed in their fascinators. Our staff helped residents to get dressed nicely, then everyone had delicious cake and sandwiches for their morning tea outside in the garden. ☕🍰💐
After morning tea, 35 of our residents were waiting for our special guest to take photos with him: our beautiful, elegant horse arrived, complete with Melbourne Cup garland! 🐴
In the afternoon, everyone gathered to watch the race, enjoyed a wonderful concert with Nora, and we gave our prizes for the best-dressed resident and staff member.
Such a fun, full day!
For our TriCare family, Melbourne Cup Day 2023 was a colourful, lively experience with plenty of opportunity for staff and residents to get all dressed up and enter into the spirit of the event, each in their own unique way. Chats, laughs, fine food, and decorations made the day special, and thanks must go to our wonderful staff and residents for working together to create a memorable day.
