This February marks thirteen years of cutting and styling residents’ hair at TriCare Compton Gardens Retirement Community, and Vicki Turner wouldn’t be anywhere else.
Mrs Turner has been cutting, styling, perming and colouring ladies and mens hair for close to forty years, and finds her role at TriCare Compton Gardens the most rewarding of her career.
“I love the community feel here at the Village and really enjoy the resident’s company.
They have so many stories to tell, having lived such full lives and it’s a pleasure to listen to what they have to say,” said Mrs Turner.
From Tuesday to Friday you will find a steady stream of residents making their way down to the salon for a little pampering and good conversation.
While onsite hair salons are not a new concept within retirement communities, in addition to providing an essential service, they are a valuable social hub for residents.
TriCare Compton Gardens Village Manager, Sandra Lasserre says that many residents are older and don’t drive anymore, so having access to a hairdresser only a short walk away is a luxury.
And residents can be rest assured that their secrets are safe with Mrs Turner.
“One of the first things I learnt as a hairdresser was the silent code of conduct – always listen, but never repeat what you hear!” said Mrs Turner.
