Making the decision to move from the family home into retirement living is a big step; however, it is a decision that people rarely regret.
Downsizing without losing independence, being part of a greater community and living with like minded people are just some of the benefits of retirement living.
Residents of TriCare Compton Gardens Retirement Community, Brian and Barbara Smith moved to into their villa eight years ago after they made the decision to downsize from their family home.
“Although we loved our home, the general up keep and maintenance of the house and garden was becoming harder and harder.
We are so happy we made the decision to move into TriCare Compton Gardens. We live in such an active and friendly community, the fellowship is wonderful,” says Mrs Smith.
Heavily involved in local Lions Clubs for over 45 years, the Smiths were keen to get involved in the social activities at TriCare Compton Gardens.
Before long, Mrs Smith was on the social club committee, helping to organise the varied activities held on a weekly and monthly basis.
“We have monthly bus trips and concerts, fashion parades from local clothing shops, gentle exercise classes including aqua aerobics and tai chi – there is so much variety and you can pick and choose what you want to do.
People who won’t leave their family home just don’t know what they are missing, there are so many positives to retirement living,’ says Mrs Smith.
Equally active, Brian Smith has sat on the residential committee for a number of years, representing resident’s views to management.
However, one of his favourite things these days is watching someone else mow the lawns and clean the pool!
