A highlight on local TriCare Mt Gravatt Retirement Community’s yearly social calendar is its formal dinner.
This year’s dinner will be masquerade party held in late July where residents are encouraged to get creative and make their own masks for the event.
Village Manager, Tammy Watt said in preparation for the party the Village set up art and craft items prior to the event as part of their twice monthly Colour Calming sessions.
“The sessions are run by the Environmental Services staff on the first and third Wednesday of each month and are always well attended.”
There are many positive benefits to colouring for adults including reducing stress and anxiety, sparking creativity and meditation.
“In June and July we introduced the mask making as one of the activities in Colour Calming.”
“During the sessions residents made masks for the party using art and craft items provided by resident activity funding,” said Mrs Watt.
Residents will enjoy a delicious three course meal prepared by in-house chef Marie Bennett and the opportunity to sit down and catch up with fellow residents. They expect over 90 residents to attend the event.
“We will welcome residents to stand at the beginning of dinner to do two circles of the Dining room to show everyone their masks prior to dinner starting.
“It will be fun to see what everyone has come up with, and whether we will be able to tell who’s who on the night,” said Mrs Watt.
