When Margy Tummon moved to TriCare James Ommaney Retirement Community little did she know she would soon be ticking off one big item on her to-do list.
That is exactly what she did when well known Brisbane entertainer, Johnny the Jester draped his pet python around her shoulders at a recent Village event.
Mrs Tummon said she always wanted to get up close to a snake so when he asked for volunteers she thought, why not?
“I feel like moving here has given me a new lease on life and the confidence to just be me.”
Johnny the Jester is just one example of the social events that are held at boutique retirement community, TriCare James Ommaney each month that residents enjoy attending.
“I love living here because I get the best of both worlds.
I have independent living, but can join in on the fun if, and when I want to, there’s never any pressure.”
A bright and vibrant resident, Mrs Tummon is affectionately known to everyone who lives at TriCare James Ommaney as Margy the purple lady.
“I don’t discriminate; I love every shade of purple – lilac, violet, plum!”
“I wear purple clothes every day, except on the first of September where I wear a beautiful spring dress.
“I even drive a purple car!” she said.
Mrs Tummon moved to the Village four years ago and says it’s one of the best decisions she’s ever made.
“I had to find somewhere quickly to live after my husband passed away. I came and looked at TriCare James Ommaney with my sister and fell in love with the place straight away.
“It’s so central, surrounded by everything I need. The community bus takes you to the local shopping centres twice a week and there is easy access to public transport should you want to venture further if you don’t drive.”
“Most importantly, the staff and residents are lovely. I am also reassured knowing there is a 24 hour emergency call system at the village.”
Mrs Tummon lives in a serviced apartment at TriCare James Ommaney which offers the convenience of an ensuite and kitchenette, along with a weekly cleaning and laundry service should she need. She enjoys the delicious home-style meals prepared daily and served in the Village’s dining room.
“I would recommend living here to anyone. Everyone who knows me knows how much I love it here.”
