At least twice a week you will find a group of keen residents playing snooker or pool at TriCare Runaway Bay Retirement Community.
Snooker is just one of the many popular recreational activities on offer at this relaxed waterfront retirement village on the northern Gold Coast canals.
Resident and snooker enthusiast, John McNamee has been playing snooker and pool on and off for years and has enjoyed playing the game since moving into the Village nearly 12 months ago.
“Our facilities here are great, we have a pool table and a snooker table which caters for all levels of the game.”
“It has been a good way to meet people since moving in and I have enjoyed playing again.”
Mr McNamee, along with other residents at the Village have helped to revive the sport at TriCare Runaway Bay, running regular competitions and social events.
“Most recently we held pool doubles and snooker doubles competitions at the Village which were a great success.”
“We are also putting together a snooker/pool ladder which will help new and existing players to work out what level they are and test their ability with fellow players.”
“One of our team members is also busy trying to set up a match with another retirement village close by which we are all looking forward to.”
A local to Runaway Bay, Mr McNamee moved into the Village in August 2018 after deciding he didn’t want to feel isolated as he grew older.
“Along with snooker I enjoy going to the gym and also playing guitar with a few other likeminded residents.”
“Moving into retirement living provides me with social life when I want it but also allows me to be self sufficient and independent.”
“Often you will find me either in my lovely unit taking in the nice views of the water and hinterland, or cruising the canals in my boat stopping off at cafes along the way.”
“It really is a great life living here,” said Mr McNamee.
