TriCare Cypress Gardens Aged Care residents take a hands on approach when it comes to managing their social calendar at a monthly meeting of their Resident Lifestyle Committee.
Lifestyle Co-ordinator Kerrie Van Veen says the TriCare Cypress Gardens’ Lifestyle Program ensures activities residents take part in have a sense of purpose and capture their interest.
“When a resident moves to TriCare Cypress Gardens we spend time with them and their families to find out what their interests are and what type of activities they enjoy and then develop an individual plan for each resident.
“It’s very important that our residents feel empowered and in control of what they are doing each day, whether it be sitting quietly reading a book or enjoying a game of bingo as part of our busy monthly lifestyle program,” said Ms Van Veen.
TriCare Cypress Gardens Resident Lifestyle Committee meet each month to review the monthly planner, add activities and manage the monthly activity offering delivered by the lifestyle team.
Ms Van Veen says the lifestyle team is really focussed on providing great entertainment and activities.
“We are committed to making a difference in the daily lives of our residents,” she said.
While there is no pressure to participate, activities are designed to get residents out of their rooms and active, all the while creating a social connection.
Some regular activities include movement and dance, board games, ‘Find a word’ quiz, happy hour afternoons and armchair travel where residents meet to share stories about places they’ve travelled to.
