Fiona Mills, the Lifestyle Coordinator at Bayview Place Aged Care Residence, keeps a very active lifestyle programme. She makes activities accessible at all times, so residents have something to do any time they wish.
“The art studio has proven to be a huge hit with both the ladies and the gents. Our last project as a group has been mosaic art, we have recycled a birdbath. We have also brightened the garden with mosaic pavers, and we are now working on a large garden pot”, says Fiona.
Beverly Clowes, one of the residents, is very proud of her masterpiece the birdbath, she had to be the first to fill it with water.
Beverly was an artist, and she painted on canvas. Due to an injury, she had to give that passion up. However, since moving to Bayview Place, making new friends and being encouraged to try new art and craft techniques, she has accomplished more than she thought she could.
Beverly has said that she wished she had made this move sooner, as now she does everything and loves it.
“In our craft groups, we discuss any new crafts that we would like to try, and then we use YouTube to watch tutorials and teach ourselves. We receive many compliments about the mosaic art in the courtyard, and we have many more plans to brighten our surroundings”, says Fiona.
