TriCare James Ommaney Retirement Community resident Lila Barrett celebrated her 101st birthday earlier this month with a special champagne dinner in her honour, surrounded by close family and friends.
Mrs Barrett moved into the boutique retirement village in 2004 and has always enjoyed the friendly and supportive environment it provides.
She believes the secret to reaching this milestone is through living a peaceful life, not worrying and not wanting.
“I was fortunate enough to be married to my dear late husband for 56 years who I met at a Sunday school picnic when I was 11.
“We had two children, Reg and Kathryn and I am blessed with four grandchildren and six great grand children whom I see regularly,” said Mrs Barrett.
Village Manager, Sue Daly said that Mrs Barrett is a treasured member of their close knit community at TriCare James Ommaney.
“She has a quick wit and is a keen knitter and bridge card player” said Ms Daly.
Mrs Barrett plays bridge regularly with friends from outside of the Village here in one of the communal rooms, and hasn’t lost her competitive edge still dominating in the game she loves.
“Age is no barrier when it comes to bridge. It keeps my mind active and it’s a lovely social way to keep in touch with friends,” she said.
TriCare James Ommaney is perfectly positioned in quiet leafy street in Mt Ommaney. Situated close to Mt Ommaney Shopping Centre, residents have convenient shopping and are close to medical services and eateries all easily accessed by public transport just around the corner.
