In-house hair salon a social hub at Gold Coast retirement village
As in-house hairdresser at TriCare Runaway Bay Retirement Community, Vicky Tanner says she has never had a bad day at work.
Whether it be a perm, wash and blow wave or a simple cut, everyone looks forward to one-on-one time with Mrs Tanner and her warm conversation.
“I have been at the Village for 23 years now and I just love it!”
The sunlit salon has water views and is so close to the Village’s dining room that residents are always just popping in to say hi.
Mrs Tanner says the salon is a social hub for residents.
“Often residents come in 45 minutes before their appointment just to have a coffee, read a magazine and catch up with their fellow neighbours. It’s a morning out for them.”
“A lot of people live alone and so when they come to the salon it’s not only to have their hair cut but also for the social connection.”
The TriCare Runaway Bay salon is open four days a week and Saturday by appointment for special occasions. Mrs Tanner not only cuts men and womens’ hair but also provides beauty treatments.
“I have regular clients who come in every week to have their hair washed and blow waved, we also do manicures.
“Many residents don’t have transport or the ability to get to the local hair salon. I am thrilled that I can pamper them a little and make their lives easier,” said Mrs Tanner.
