Some of our residents from TriCare James Ommaney Retirement Community and St Luke’s Green Retirement Community came together recently to knit cosy blankets and beanies for premature babies at the Gold Coast University Hospital.
Our James Ommaney Retirement Facility Manager Robyn Bryant said the partnership was a great opportunity for residents to connect with like-minded individuals from other facilities and give back to the community in a positive way.
“We are grateful to have such wonderful residents at our facility that love giving back to the community and making a difference,” Robyn said. “It’s wonderful to see our TriCare Retirement Communities not only interacting with each other, but joining forces to contribute to a heartwarming cause.”
In the lead-up to the event, Robyn said the residents were looking forward to working together with residents from St Luke’s.
“It’s not every day we get to connect with other retirement communities in the area, so the residents were really looking forward to the day trip and fun activities planned.
“Volunteering is very important to the residents at TriCare and something we encourage. There’s nothing better than putting a smile on someone’s face or making their day from an act of kindness.”
James Ommaney Resident Christine also had a special reason for wanting to help parents of premature babies, with her granddaughter being a midwife at Gold Coast University Hospital, caring for the babies each day.
“I’m extremely proud of my granddaughter and everything she does for the hospital,” Christine said.
Talking before the event last week, Christine said she was looking forward to connecting with the residents from St Luke’s Green and “working together to create some beautiful donations”.
“I’m very blessed to be surrounded by other residents who enjoy giving back just as much as I do – it means a lot to me that I can help those in need and make my granddaughter proud.”
Just in time for World Kindness Day, soon approaching on 13 November, this heartwarming initiative and community event between our TriCare communities was extra special.
It’s never been more important to lend a helping hand to others and show just how powerful simple acts of kindness can be.
The heartwarming knitting initiative by James Ommaney Retirement Community and St Luke’s Green was also featured on Channel 7 Brisbane. A wonderful way to honour the residents’ efforts, raise widespread awareness, and encourage others to come and learn to knit if they too would like to contribute.
