Helping others and giving back has always been an important part of everyday life at the generous TriCare Mt Gravatt Retirement Community.
Most recently, the Village hosted morning tea as part of the Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea program.
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea brings people together to raise funds to make a difference to those impacted by cancer. Funds raised help fund Cancer Council’s life-saving research, prevention, support programs and information.
The Biggest Morning Tea is TriCare Mt Gravatt’s largest fundraiser for the year, with over $1400 raised in 2019.
Over 60 residents attended morning tea with a delicious menu created by onsite chef, Marie Bennett. There were pastries, savoury treats, finger sandwiches and blue and yellow iced cupcakes to mark the special event, all washed down with the all important cup of tea or coffee.
This generous retirement community supports a number of organisations throughout the year including donating toiletry essentials to foster children, knitted blankets, booties and bonnets for premature babies at Mater Women’s Hospital, donation of pre-used glasses to the Lions Recycle for Sight program and corks and used stamps to a number of different not-for-profit organisations.
Village Manager, Tammy Watt says the residents never tire of getting involved and helping out where they can.
“They have so much energy and a strong desire to give back to their community, it’s very humbling to see,” she said.
With the help of the Village’s administration officer, Katrina Gray, TriCare Mt Gravatt also supports Queensland’s Keema Children’s Foundation through the sale of bright coloured socks throughout winter.
Dedicated to creating a better future for children living in foster care, sales of the socks go towards running the Little Stars Kids Camp Program which provides opportunities for children in foster care to get back to nature and experience activities such as canoeing, low ropes, team challenges and farm experiences. So far, the Village has raised $490 towards this program.
