Co-located Living: what it means and how it can benefit you

Creating the perfect plan for the future can feel overwhelming, especially when you may need to factor in the possibility of your health needs or that of a loved one changing over time with age. One solution that’s becoming increasingly popular is our Co-located Living Aged Care Residences and Retirement Communities.

If you’re navigating Aged Care or Retirement Living for the first time, you may not have heard about Co-Located Living and how it helps many couples to take the perfect next step in their retirement plan, when one spouse may need extra care.

For many of our resident couples, Co-Located Living provides comfort for both of them, as well as peace of mind, knowing that both their long-term care and the special relationship they share are supported as time goes on.

What is Co-located Living and how is it helpful?

At Tricare, our Co-located Living is the arrangement we have where selected Aged Care Residences are positioned within 5 kilometres of one of our Retirement Living Communities. This innovative approach offers couples the perfect blend of independence and support, catering to unique needs and preferences.

Co-located Living allows couples to stay within arms reach of each other, as one partner can receive the level of care they need from our nurturing Aged Care Residences while the other continues living in one of our vibrant Retirement Communities. This solves one of the most common concerns for ageing couples: the fear of being separated or isolated due to differing care needs.

Our residents who choose this option often find that it is the perfect solution for a situation that can otherwise become complicated and challenging, as staying close together is one of the most important factors in planning for the future. The close proximity of our Co-located Living facilities means that you and your spouse can easily visit each other daily, maintaining your connection and continuing to support each other through this new phase of life.

Co-located Living also means everyone can live independently for as long as possible within our Retirement Villages, but you then have the option for a smooth transition into an Aged Care Residence you’re familiar with if your health needs do change, without having to make a big change in location or lifestyle. This flexibility makes it even easier to adapt to changing circumstances, without any unnecessary stress of relocating to an entirely new community.

Consistency of care

One of the best advantages of our Co-located Living is the consistency of care it offers. It is not uncommon for our Retirement residents to move into our Co-located Aged Care Residences as their health needs change, but almost all our residents love knowing they have the option if their needs do change. Our Co-Located Living locations are like a safety net that is guaranteed to provide you with the same high quality level of care and sense of community you’re familiar with at TriCare.

Our Retirement Communities offer a range of support services and accommodation options to help residents live independently for as long as possible, but having the option to move into a nearby Aged Care Residence can give you the peace of mind of a clear future plan. When our health needs can change unexpectedly, being able to transition into an environment that isn’t entirely unfamiliar can help you and your family to feel well-supported and at ease, without any last-minute scrambling or the need for major life disruptions.

Supporting couples with different care needs

Our Co-located Living solution is popular among couples who may find that they require different levels of support and care. Often, one partner may remain independent while the other needs a higher level of support due to health concerns or higher need for daily help with activities like bathing, dressing, and taking medication. In a traditional setup, this could mean that a couple is forced to live separately, with one partner moving to a care facility while the other stays at home. But TriCare Co-located Living offers a thoughtful alternative, allowing couples to stay right next door to each other.

We understand the importance of staying close together during this time, and we respect and foster that deep connection that can come from a lifetime together. With TriCare, one spouse can enjoy the reassuring comfort of our Aged Care facilities, while the other can enjoy the independence and social aspects of our nearby Retirement Communities.
