Today, Compton Gardens Retirement Community celebrated 30 years with a morning tea celebration in the village auditorium.
TriCare Director Peter O’Shea noted the milestone by thanking residents for calling Compton Gardens their home and participating in the community over the years, getting involved in activities and forming long-lasting friendships with neighbours and staff.
With over a hundred guests at the morning tea, including residents and staff, local Councillor Tracy Davis and Compton Gardens founder Everald Compton were also in attendance.
Everald Compton, who led the building of the Retirement Community, let guests in on interesting anecdotes from the development process in the late 1980s and into 1990. Mr Compton spoke of the decision to adopt federation-style architecture, which is also reflected in the village street names.
Following speeches, one of Compton Gardens’ original residents, Gerda Brisk, assisted with the ribbon cutting. Residents, staff, and guests then shared a delicious cake also cut by Gerda.
