If you’re considering downsizing to a Retirement Community, you may be wondering about the different accommodation options. Is an apartment or serviced apartment the best fit? Or should you opt for a villa? And what’s the difference between a studio, unit and independent living?
These are all great questions, and each option has unique features that are designed to suit people with varying wants and needs.
At TriCare retirement communities, we offer three styles of homes: independent living units, serviced apartments and co-located communities. In this article we’ll provide an overview of each to help you identify the best fit for you.
Independent Living Units
Independent Living Unit, Runaway Bay Retirement Community
Our independent living units vary in size and style, but can have up to three bedrooms, a master ensuite, separate bathroom, full kitchen, open-plan living area and secure parking. They are ideal for active singles or couples who are looking for a low-maintenance lifestyle in a comfortable home.
The spacious size of our independent living units allows you to have family stay overnight on occasion and to keep a small pet (subject to approval). With many units featuring a courtyard or balcony, you can enjoy your morning cuppa or evening meal outdoors, or invite friends over for a barbeque or afternoon tea from time to time.
As residents, you’ll have full access to all the Retirement Community activities, facilities and communal areas, which can include swimming pools, gym, cinema, library, spa, bowling, wellness centre, hair salon and more. Each unit also includes a 24-hour emergency call system for peace of mind.
Serviced Apartments
Serviced apartment, James Ommaney Retirement Village
Our serviced apartments are the perfect choice for couples or singles who are ready to relax and enjoy retirement in comfort and style. Ranging in size from a studio to a two-bedroom apartment, you can enjoy your freedom and independence without the added stress of managing the many chores and upkeep tasks of a larger home.
Each apartment offers bright outlooks, and includes a private ensuite, compact kitchen or hot beverage facilities. Car parking is generally available and all apartments include access to the 24-hour emergency call system. To free up your time and make life easier, you can also enjoy fresh, nutritious meals cooked onsite daily by our chefs, and our staff can assist with cleaning and laundry services as arranged too.
As mentioned above, all our residents have access to the vast array of activities, facilities and services located onsite. All have been designed to provide fun, enhance health and encourage social interaction, allowing residents to fully embrace their retirement lifestyle.
Co-Located Communities
Apartment, Stafford Lakes Retirement Community
For couples with varying care needs, a co-located community can be ideal. These retirement communities are situated on the same property or close by to one of our aged care residences, which allows you to be near to your partner if they require a higher level of care. At the time of writing, our co-located retirement communities include Cypress Gardens, James Ommaney, Mt Gravatt, Runaway Bay and Stafford Lakes.
Modern Retirement Living Options Designed for Everyone
Downsizing to a Retirement Community is a big decision, and taking the time to weigh up all the options is a must. Of particular importance is the location, and the accommodation style, as this will have a direct impact on your lifestyle and level of happiness.
Researching online is a great place to start, but be sure to visit any communities on your shortlist in person too, to get a feel for the surroundings and see the homes and facilities for yourself. Can you see yourself on the private balcony enjoying the views? Or meeting friends for a coffee in the resident’s lounge? Or taking a morning swim in the pool? If so, you may just have found your new home!
