Yesterday, TriCare’s Cypress Gardens Aged Care Residence celebrated the 105th Birthday of resident Mary Atkinson, alongside her family.
Mary has been a resident at Cypress Gardens since 2018, having also celebrated her 100th birthday at the residence. Reaching this milestone makes Mary the oldest living person in Queensland. TriCare also previously had the honour of caring for and celebrating the oldest Australian in 2020.
Mary’s family; daughters Helen and Janet, and great-granddaughters Tiana and Brooke joined their beloved matriarch for an afternoon celebration of cake, a few sips of wine, and a walk down memory lane.
Sharing photos of Mary’s remarkable life, along with letters from the late Queen Elizabeth, the newly crowned King Charles, and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, her daughters say their mother’s secret to her long life is “fruit and vegetables and a strong relationship with the Lord”.
In addition to her family, staff and fellow residents gathered to sing Mary a happy birthday and offer well wishes for her 105th year around the sun.
