Our residents celebrate the 2024 Melbourne Cup in style

The Melbourne Cup is always a highlight on the social calendar across our TriCare communities. Many of our Aged Care Residences and Retirement Living Communities rallied together to celebrate the recent Melbourne Cup in their own special way this year, with residents bringing their best hats, suits and frocks to the occasion!

On your marks, get set, craft!

Melbourne Cup is a known fashion spectacle here in Australia, and that includes wearing beautiful hats to the festivities! Some of our lovely Aged Care and Retirement residents didn’t waste any time getting into the spirit this year with some brilliant hat-making.

A few of our lady residents at our Stafford Lakes Retirement Community kicked off the celebrations with a ‘Melbourne Cup Hat Workshop’ in preparation for the big day. This fun activity meant our residents could get creative with feathers, ribbons, and all kinds of vibrant materials to create their own unique hats for the Melbourne Cup celebrations.

Their creative designs were a hit, even catching the attention of local media to share some coverage of their creations. It was wonderful to showcase some of the creativity and camaraderie that exists within our community.

We brought the races to us

In true Melbourne Cup fashion, our communities brought the excitement of the races right to their own venues. Whether you were putting a bet in on the sweeps or taking photos under the jockey’s flower arch with friends, it was lovely to see everyone enjoying themselves.

All of our residents dressed to impress for this year’s Melbourne Cup events onsite, with many of the ladies in beautiful dresses and the gentlemen wearing their best button-down shirts for the occasion. It was certainly hard to choose winners for all of the best dressed competitions!

Our Pimpama Aged Care Residence even brought some of the Melbourne Cup’s competition to their own facility, with the residents and staff getting involved in all sorts of fun games and activities. Friendly competition is always a great way to bring some fun and laughter to our residents, with everyone eager to beat their mate!

Mt Gravatt Aged Care Residence also had an eventful day celebrating the Melbourne Cup, with a morning tea filled with fun games. In the afternoon, everyone had the chance to pat a very friendly real-life horse!

Residents wined and dined just like they do in Melbourne City

A special occasion like the Melbourne Cup is only celebrated right with delicious meals and cold beverages, and many of our residents were treated to just that. Across our communities, residents enjoyed luncheons with refreshing mimosas, beers or juices, raising their glasses to celebrate the Cup together.

Our Willow Glen Retirement Community held a delightful two-course luncheon for the residents, where everyone had a smorgasbord to choose from including leg ham, BBQ chicken, fresh salads, followed by a Bavarian cheesecake. Yum!
