Registered Nurse, Nina Poric has seen a lot of changes in the aged care industry over the last 40 years and believes an emphasis on training and ongoing education is what makes TriCare Cypress Gardens Aged Care stand out.
Mrs Poric has always worked in aged care and said when she started her first job straight out of nurses’ college, she found it very confronting as she had never worked with older people before.
“Now there is much more emphasis on training and how to approach the medical and the emotional side of an older patient.
These days, nurses and personal care staff at TriCare Cypress Gardens have already had so much hands on training before they have even started they know what to expect on their first day of work,” said Mrs Poric.
Mrs Poric also believes working in aged care is like a calling, and that you need to be strong and understanding in often very difficult circumstances.
“TriCare Cypress Gardens isn’t a hospital, it’s a home and I see my patients’ nearly every day, therefore my relationship with them is much more than just medical.
Older people need lots of emotional support, love and they need to feel safe,” said Mrs Poric.
Facility Manager, Judy Carter says that Ms Poric is an amazing clinician and a much loved and respected member of the TriCare Cypress Gardens team.
“She is one of our most acclaimed registered nurses due to the faith and confidence families have in her ability, care and clinical knowledge,” said Mrs Carter.
