I cried as I read the letter on ‘euthanasia fear’ (Guardian, 6/10), having just spent three long days beside my 98 year old mother battling a determine pacemaker, making her struggle to die.
You wouldn’t wish it on your worst enemy. Surely there should be a way to turn the thing off when the body is ready to give up. We do need power to euthanise in these circumstances.
Thank the good lord for the wonderfully caring staff at TriCare Bundaberg who were by mother’s side, making the journey as pain-free and dignified as they possibly could. Constantly reassuring and supporting us in our distress.
When we went to say our final goodbyes you would have never known she had suffered. The care and love they would have given their own mothers was lavished on ours and she looked serene and at peace, so our memories are not painful, thanks to the caring TriCare staff.
Our extended family is so very grateful. Thank you TriCare for all you did for mother.
