Santa’s workshop in full swing at TriCare Mt Gravatt Retirement Community

When the call out was made for Village elves to help with Christmas ideas and decorations for the festive season, a team of TriCare Mt Gravatt Retirement Community residents took up the challenge.

For a while now the residents have been busy collecting, painting, sparkling and colouring a range of creative and colourful items all in time for Christmas.

Resident Isabel Loughlan believes you are only limited by your imagination and said everyone involved is having a great time getting their hands dirty.

“We make decorations for the entire Village, from new and recycled bits and pieces, all in aid of creating a festive spirit in the lead up to Christmas. It’s also a great excuse to catch up and have a chat while we are working,” said Mrs Loughlan.

Village Manager, Tammy Watt said that the enthusiasm of the residents working together on this project is infectious.

“Many residents at TriCare Mt Gravatt come from creative backgrounds and are avid crafters so this suits them down to a tee.

They are making table ornaments, menus for the Christmas party, festive floral arrangements and Christmas trees which will be displayed all around the Village, and are meeting more regularly because they really enjoy being involved,” said Mrs Watt.

All residents can get in on the act through the annual TriCare Mt Gravatt Christmas Decoration Competition where individual Service Apartment doors, hallways and Independent Living Unit garden displays are judged on their festive appearance.
